Auto sales up in September

Auto industry sales up by 37% in September

MANILA – Cars and truck sales for September reached 24,523 units last month according to a joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).

The growth translates to 37% from the 17,905 units sold last August.

“CAMPI remains optimistic that the automotive sector will recover until the end of the year amid the new normal environment as the industry posted double-digit growth of 37% in September,” said CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez.

He explained that demands for new cars posted double-digits growth on all vehicle categories except for trucks and buses. However, they are cautious that consumer spending is below the pre-pandemic levels due to the evident shifts to essential goods and services.

September figures show a negative 22.9% growth from 31,820 units sold in the same period last year.

Year-to-date, the auto industry sold a total of 148,012 units which showed a decline of 44.6%. (Melo M. Acuña)
